NEWS
Brent Albright and Jake Roberts will be guests on tonight's "Monday Night Mayhem" show starting at 7pm Central. You can listen to the show at their website, MondayNightMayhem.com.

The Hennepin County medical examiner's office listed homicide as the cause of death of Helmut Gutmann, the 97-year-old man, and in specific, complications from a broken hip he received when he was allegedly thrown to the ground by Verne Gagne. It is doubtful any charges will be filed against Gagne due to his suffering from Alzheimer's related dementia.

The daughter of Helmut Gutmann, who died after reportedly being pushed by Verne Gagne, said she does not want him prosecuted. Ruth Hennig (no relation to the wrestling family) said Gagne, 83, should not be held responsible for the death of her 97 year-old father because he has Alzheimer's disease. Earlier this week the coroner ruled the death a homicide. Both men lived together in a nursing home's dementia unit. Hennig said in an email to the Pioneer Press: "I do think that the coroner's 'homicide' finding raises concerning questions about the precautions that nursing facilities need to take in caring for patients with Alzheimer's. It's hard enough for people and families who are afflicted with Alzheimer's. They shouldn't also have to worry about physical vulnerabilities or the risk of harm."

WWE Smackdown head writer Michael Hayes is feeling pressure regarding the Smackdown ratings. Even though the show is doing record ratings for MyNetwork TV, they are far behind what they were doing last year.

WWE is concerned about the future of their broadcast announcers. Jim Ross is 57, and Jerry Lawler will be 60 years old later this year.

MondayNightMayhem.com had Dory Funk Jr. on the program recently and spoke to him about his WWE Hall of Fame induction. When asked about being inducted by Dusty Rhodes, Dory said he is very grateful to be inducted by one of his very good friends & colleagues in the business: "He is a great figure in professional wrestling & has been for many years."

Last Monday on "RAW", WWE confirmed the induction of Ricky Steamboat into the Hall of Fame Class of 2009, he will be inducted by Ric Flair.

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair gave a great 12 minute interview to CBS News where he talked about a variety of subjects including the movie 'The Wrestler', how the business takes a toll on you physically and mentally, the desire to still be a part of the shows and much more. Calling WWE "the greatest show on Earth," Flair said that whenever they went to Europe it was like The Beatles were there. Flair invited CBS News' Jeff Glor - who was conducting the interview - to tell his wife and come on a 10 day European tour next time around to experience it himself! Flair also talked about drugs in wrestling and how he still follows to this day what his three best friends - Batista, Triple H and Shawn Michaels - are doing on television. Glor brought up the bleeding and the scar tissue on Flair's forehead to which Flair said "I bleed like nobody else" while laughing. "Red is green," he added. The final moments of the interview were very emotional for Flair as the host talked about his retirement. Tears filled up Flair's eyes and his voice started to crack as he did his best not to cry, unsuccessfully. "It's tough," host Jeff Glor said. "It's great. It's good. You caught me off guard," the Nature Boy replied.

Ring of Honor has a YouTube video wire with a Ric Flair promo up plugging his debut with the group. You can view it by clicking here.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there are talks of building up to Ric Flair refereeing a match in Ring of Honor.

The Cleveland County, NC, Star has an article on HBO's Eastbound and Down noting that Will Ferrell based his car salesman character on Ric Flair. you can read the article by clicking here.

There was a show last Saturday night in Lisbon, Portugal that originally advertised Ric Flair, Trevor Murdoch, Shelly Martinez, and Steve Corino. None appeared and it was announced it was due to bad weather in the U.S.

Sting vs. Mick Foley is being advertised locally in Philadelphia for TNA's "Lockdown" pay-per-view.

It is interesting to note that Mick Foley's new segment on last week's "TNA iMPACT!" really put over the WWE product, days after the ECW announcers suggest that Christian had been "on hiatus" the last three years, despite winning the TNA World Title.

Well, in the end Mick Foley was actually right. The final quarter for Impact last week with the Empty Arena Match set the new record with a 1.5 rating.

There is a YouTube video of Jim Cornette's take on Christian returning to WWE. You can view it by clicking here.

TNA announced its Fanfest for the day before "Lockdown" at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA. They have a series of travel packages through AirTran Airways going into Philadelphia. Call 1-866-683-8368 with the event code PHL041709 TNAWRESTLING, which includes a ticket to the show, a three-night stay at the hotel with the wrestlers, a ticket to the fanfest, a "Lockdown" event T-shirt, a Jeff Jarrett DVD which Jeff will hand deliver to you, a brunch with some of the wrestlers and 8x10 photos of every TNA star. For more info, e-mail tnaufx@tnawrestling.com

The National Wrestling Alliance will be holding an event at The Arena in Philadelphia, PA (aka ECW Arena) on August 30th, 2009. This event takes place 15 years (and a few days) after Shane Douglas threw down the NWA World Title belt in the middle of the ring.

ABC News recently caught up with a few wrrestlers such as Roddy Piper and Brutus Beefcake. To view the video, click here.

One of the International Wrestling Association creative team members, Luis Santiago, leaves the IWA last week, after having a discussion with Miguel Perez. Santiago was also the IWA website editor. Luke Williams and Savio Vega now have full control of the book.

There is a story on Balls Mahoney in a recent New York Times trying to compare him with Randy "The Ram" Robinson. The funny part of the story is they say Jon Rechart (Mahoney) performs "under a name that cannot be printed in this newspaper." He said he hasn't seen the movie. It also talked about Honky Tonk Man and Bushwacker Luke at indie shows. You can read the story by clicking here.

Charlie Thesz, widow of legendary NWA World Champion Lou Thesz, with her take on the "The Wrestler": "I respect the independent film industry and working within a budget, but more research would have been a good investment. I didn?t consider it a statement on the lower end of professional wrestling, as much as on the lower end of humanity. However, if wrestling was the chosen venue, why not have the professionalism in the film industry to honestly represent the wrestling industry? I am not denying the seediness of pro wrestling at its lowest level. I guess it is how my doctor friends feel about medical shows ... we are a little too smart for our own enjoyment."

On last Thursday's episode of "TMZ" cameras caught up with actor Adam Sandler. They commented that it looked as if he had gained some weight. They asked if it was for a part in a movie and he said yes. They then asked if the part was a mini-Andre the Giant. Sandler laughed as he got in his car and left.

Oklafan would like to congratulate Kevin Von Erich. He is now a grandfather as his daughter Jill gave birth to a baby girl this week.

Several injuries to report. Vash Heartley suffered a minor neck injury while working out last week. Damien Morte injured his shoulder during the MSWA show Sunday. And Sage broke his C-4 vertabrae during his match against SWCW Cruiserweight Champion Rage Logan Saturday. Oklafan wishes all of them a speedy recovery.
