The Scoop

NEWS
PWInsider.com is reporting that one of the greatest families in professional wrestling, the Von Erich's, will be inducted into the 2009 WWE Hall of Fame. The family, consisting of the dad Fritz and his six sons - Kevin, Jack, David, Kerry, Mike and Chris - are all dead except for Kevin. Jack is the only sibling who had nothing to do with wrestling after he died at the age of 7. David died in 1984 from a heart attack, followed by Mike who committed suicide in 1987 by overdose, and Chris who also committed suicide in 1991. Kerry - who wrestled as the Texas Tornado in WWE - committed suicide in 1993 shooting himself in the heart, and their father Fritz died in 1997 with cancer. Kevin Von Erich appeared during the RAW Homecoming three hour episode which was taped in Dallas, TX., and received a thunderous ovation from his hometown crowd and now hosts a show on WWE 24/7. PWInsider adds that one of the family's greatest rivals, Michael Hayes, will be doing the induction. Kevin and the Von Erich children will be the ones accepting the honor. Kerry's daughter Lacey was once signed with WWE but she was let go before even making her WWE debut. The following is a statement on the Von Erich family website at VonErich.com reads "We are honored to announce that the Von Erich Family will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 4th. The induction will be held in Houston, TX. For those of you that have been asking about Kevin's sons, we are planning on including Ross and Marshall in the ceremony."

The Temple Christian Academy in Lewisville, TX held the 25th annual David Von Erich Basketball Tournament on January 29th & 30th. February 10th was the 25th anniversary of David's death.

Former WWE developmental diva Lacey Von Erich stated on her MySpace page that she will be posing for Playboy magazine, "Playboy next Thurs. at 12:15! Wish me luck! I'm scared !!". Lacey is the daughter of former WWF superstar Kerry Von Erich. She was under a WWE developmental deal in 2007 and 2008, but was never called up to the main roster.

Mickey Rourke has been telling people that he is going to be at Wrestlemania, but that he has been talked out of working a match at Wrestlemania 25. The original plan had Rourke going up against Chris Jericho with Ric Flair in Rourke's corner.

There has been preliminary talk of doing a movie based on the life of "Nature Boy" Ric Flair.

Reputedly, the character Will Ferrell plays on HBO's "Eastbound & Down" about a retired baseball player who becomes a substitute teacher is based largely around Ric Flair. The creators of the show are from North Carolina, so it's not a stretch.

Some of you, particularly Ric Flair fans, will get a kick out of this one. It's really hilarious at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_FZs0218wc.

USA Network is scripting some old-time wrestling into its shows. On "Psyche" last week, there was a mention of Koko B. Ware and Frankie. On "Burn Notice", they tracked down a bomber who was watching a match between The Undertaker (doing the biker gimmick) against Ric Flair.

The Chris Jericho incident got some mainstream publicity last Sunday and Monday thanks to the cell phone footage. On Fox News in Detroit, anchor Ron Savage watched the footage and called the incident a big embarrassment for pro wrestling, if that's even possible. They claimed the woman was just asking for a photo and got punched, which is hardly what happened. They claimed a police report was filed by the women and that WWE had not commented if they would take disciplinary action against Jericho. The feeling is WWE will take the tact the incident was provoked by the fans, particularly Ashley Levey, who ended up being swung at. Levey and boyfriend Kalen Johl, who heckled and got called a name in return, was arrested for assault but then released. She wants Jericho charged. Fox News Network with Megyn Kelly had a debate on the issue this morning, with two guests arguing over who was at fault. Prosecutor Fred Tecce was against Jericho, saying he should be charged with assault for striking the woman. The other lawyer, defense attorney David Wohl, joked Jericho had "just wrestled Haystacks Calhoun or whomever", and it was self defense and blamed security for not keeping the crowd away from him. Kelly sided with Jericho, saying he was spit on first, and noted he had insulted the live crowd at the arena.

The final roster for "Legends of Wrestlemania" video game has been leaked and will have Andre the Giant, Animal, Arn Anderson, Bam Bam Bigelow, Big Bossman, John Studd, Bret Hart, Davey Boy Smith, Brutus Beefcake, Dusty Rhodes, Greg Valentine, Hawk, The Honky Tonk Man, Hulk Hogan, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, The Iron Sheik, Jake Roberts, Jim Duggan, Jim Neidhart, Jimmy Snuka, Junkyard Dog, Kamala, King Kong Bundy, Koko B. Ware, Michael Hayes, Mr. Perfect, Nikolai Volkoff, Ric Flair, Rick Rude, The Rock, Roddy Piper, Sgt. Slaughter, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, Ted DiBiase, Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker, and Yokozuna. This does not include managers who are playable but must be unlocked. Managers confirmed for the game include Jimmy Hart, Bobby Heenan, Mr. Fuji, and Paul Bearer.

You would think we would be home free from blurring issues on the new "Saturday Night's Main Event" DVD set since none of it takes place during the late 90's but you would be wrong. All WWF Superstars banners are blurred for some reason as well as Koko B Ware's tights.

Jim Duggan appeared at the Variety Club of Iowa telethon last weekend.

Kurt Angle was legitimately busted open hard-way during the main event after butting heads with Sting during the Fatal 4-Way at TNA's "Against All Odds" pay-per-view event.

Jeff Jarrett is currently scheduled to make his return to the ring at TNA's "Lockdown" pay-per-view in April.

The upcoming Jeff Jarrett 4 Disc DVD being released on 4/14 will feature the following from early in Jeff's career:

-March 5, 1986: Jeff Jarrett's first on camera appearance as a referee
-March 12, 1986: Jeff Jarrett (in his television pro debut) vs. Tony Faulk
-December 26, 1987: Jeff Jarrett vs. Hector Guerrero
-February 6, 1988: Jeff Jarrett vs. Jerry "The King" Lawler
-September 20, 1988: Jeff Jarrett & Bill Dundee vs. Cactus Jack (Mick Foley) & Gary Young

Mick Foley did a fun interview with the Sun Newspaper in the UK which you can hear at TheSun.co.uk. On his first wrestling match back for TNA: "I learned the lesson that if you're going to forget one thing it shouldn't be: "Hey, there's two guys crashing through a table...you might not want to have your leg there. I thought I broke my leg. I could barely walk, but thankfully the swelling has gone down." On WWE and The Wrestler: "I was asked whether I thought Vince McMahon would like the movie and I said: "Personally I don't think he'll like it, as he doesn't like to shine a spotlight on some of the troubles the guys go through."... Mickey Rourke called me and the first thing he said was: "Screw Vince McMahon!" On possibly costing himself a WWE Hall Of Fame place: "It's weird how much talk the Hall Of Fame gets and it's definitely something people consider. You have to keep in mind that there are guys like Baron Mikel Scicluna, Johnny Rodz, The Fridge and Pete Rose in there...but Bruno Sammartino is not in there. Between Bruno and Bob Backlund, they held the old WWWF title for about 13 years and neither one is in. I'm not going to let Vince determine whether or not my career is a good one by whether or not I'm inducted. Still it would be nice to be asked one day...but I'm not counting on it and in no way would that greatly shape my memories."

Mick Foley's proposed sitcom "Have A Nice Day!" is dead in the water after Spike reportedly turned it down. One of the guys at the production company behind the project doesn't seem too pleased with Foley and released the following statement: "For those of you who have asked, yes, Mick Foley has once again pulled out of the "Have a Nice Day" sitcom, citing time constraints (specifically due to his busy wrestling schedule and family committments). Mick is a true legend in the world of pro wrestling and he has literally given his body to entertain his fans. Producing and starring in a situation comedy is a full-time job and a person really has to want it badly enough in order to devote their time to it. Otherwise, it's not gonna be a success. Fortunately, Mick understood that he wasn't cut out for this project and he respectfully backed out before we got too far into negotiations with a major broadcast network. Everyone at Amdram Productions and Lost Colony Entertainment wishes Mick well as he continues with his work as a professional wrestler at the age of 43. Now? We move forward with our current slate of projects, relishing the opportunity to work with a talented group of individuals who are anxious and ready to devote their time and energy towards making things happen.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper is part of an interactive comedy dinner show at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas from February 20th through March 8th.

Honky Tonk Man has fired Eric Simms from promoting him on any events. "Eric Simms is someone whom I can no longer trust with representing me on any bookings."

Celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman is at it again, trying to put together a fight between Preson, a WMMR morning show DJ, to fight Lindsay Lohan's father on an April show that would also feature a boxing match featuring Greg Valentine vs. Tito Santana at the Airport Ramada in Philadelphia, PA. Presumably the Valentine-Santana match is a a worked boxing match purported as a shoot.

There was an article at
Uncoached.com featuring 10 matches (in no particular order) that the authour believed were "Awesome". Among those matches were: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant, John Studd vs. Andre the Giant, Hercules vs. Paul Orndorff, Roddy Piper vs. Jimmy Snuka, The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart) vs. The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid), Jake Roberts vs. Rick Rude, and the first Royal Rumble (won by Jim Duggan).

On "Jeopardy" Friday, Alex Trebek brought his dogs on the set, one of which is named "Jake the Snake." The dog was perfectly sober.

Stemming from Joachin Phoenix's wacky appearance on David Letterman's show the other night, TIME Online did a list of the top ten worst Letterman appearances. Andy Kaufman & Jerry Lawler's appearance from 1982 ranked #7. For those who have never seen it you can do so by clicking here.

Texas based IWHE IHWE has a Hall of Fame ceremony scheduled for April 25th at the Sycamore Community Center in Fort Worth honoring Skandar Akbar, Ken "Slick" Johnson, Robert Baron, Rodney Begnaud (Rodney Mack), and Johnny Valentine.

April 4th might be a busy day for Al Snow. He is scheduled to face PWE Heavyweight Champion Harker Dirge at the Professional Wrestling Entertainment event in Springfield, IL and also scheduled for the Championship Pro Wrestling event in Scranton, PA.

Oklafan has received partial information on a wrestling event being held in Ada Friday, February 20. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get any concrete information on the federation's name or the location of the event. If any readers can provide information about this event, please contact us.

Oklafan would like to congratulate Al Snow on his recent marriage to Cynthia Lynch, known in professional wrestling as Bobcat. Ironically, both Snow and his new wife are former WWF Hardcore Champions. Snow held the title 6 different times and Bobcat held the title on May 15, 2000 defeating Crash Holly then losing it back to him minutes later. Bobcat also had a brief stint as one of The Godfather's Hos.
