Oklahoma Scoop

NEWS
Last Friday's "Sportscenter" on ESPN was opened by Jim Ross. On ESPN's "SportsCenter" on Saturday morning, they had Jim Ross in front of a WWE logo plugging the show. He appeared on their weekend college football preview show Friday running down the Texas vs. Oklahoma game. He was in character on the show. It seemed like they wanted him to play an exaggerated version of himself getting in his government mule and slobberknocker references.

Jakks Pacific recently released lists of their upcoming lines:

-Vader: Classic Superstars 28

An interesting note about the new Charlie Haas gimmick. Matt Striker did the same gimmick of imitating wrestlers when he was working independent shows.

A special event called "Celebrating 35 Years Of Wrestling - Jerry 'The King' Lawler Tribute" will be held at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds' Sports Arena in Nashville, TN (formerly known as the TNA Asylum) on November 7th.

WWE.com recently posted a list of the top 10 betrayals in the company. Coming in at #8 was Evolution (Triple H, Ric Flair & Batista) betraying Randy Orton.

John Cena and WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair appeared on the debut of the new Florida Championship Wrestling television show which is taped at the training center WWE built for their developmental territory in Tampa, FL. Ric Flair opened the show cutting a promo and putting over WWE. This is the first time that Flair did some work for WWE since he decided to part ways with the company a few months ago. Former WWE champ John Cena - who's currently recovering from surgery - also appeared and was involved in an angle with FCW's Shawn Spears which ended with Cena delivering the FU. Dusty Rhodes and Todd Grisham handle the play-by-play. The show airs on the Bright House Sports Network. You can see the Ric Flair promo from the first show by clicking here.

"Nature Boy Ric Flair: The Definitive Collection" is #9 on the Billboard Top 10 sports/recreational DVDs.

Ric Flair appeared on last weekend's syndicated version of "TMZ Weekend" about 10-15 minutes into the show discussing his apparent feud with former NFL standout and current "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Warren Sapp. Apparently Flair is mad he was not chosen and said he could beat up Sapp in a different interview and is asked about it in this one. Flair also has been working out and put on quite a bit of muscle it seems.

Brad O'Neal wrote about the Ric Flair signing last Saturday night in Robstown, TX. He noted it was catered with free food and about 100 people. Nobody was rushed and everyone got to talk with Flair and get all their items signed. He said it was very much unlike any WWE signing he had been to and praised those running it.

On Max Kellerman's show on 1050 ESPN radio in New York City and at around 12:50pm on Wednesday of last week, he wanted to play a new game called "Wrestler: Dead or Alive" So Max had his producer name three wrestlers and Max and a few other guys would chime and guess if they were dead or alive. The first name was Koko B Ware- it was mixed as to if he was dead or alive between the radio crew. The next name was Rick Rude, they mentioned his infamous program with Jake Roberts and his wife, they all voted that Rude was dead. The last name they mentioned was The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, again it was mixed. One guy said that Dusty was dead but his birthmark was still alive and kickin'. They also said after they revealed that Rhodes was alive that his 2 sons currently wrestle, citing both Goldust and Cody.

TNAwrestling.com has a new interview up conducted from the home of Jeff Jarrett in Hendersonville, TN.

The belief is that Mick Foley signed a six month deal with TNA.

The TNA web site's newest Spin Cycle show has Terry Taylor, Glenn Gilberti (AKA Disco Inferno), Pat Kenney (AKA Simon Diamond), and Vince Russo talk about Jeff Jarrett's return, Sarah Palin, young talent vs. veterans, who should be fired, and more.

The St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame officially inducted six new members in its move to the South Broadway Athletic Club. The newest inductees are Jack Brisco, Dory Funk Jr., Joe Garagiola, Rocky Johnson, Buddy Rogers, and referee Lee Warren.

Terry Funk was scheduled to face Steve Corino on October 4th in Robersonville, NC, in a cage match but pulled out due to knee problems. Jake Roberts was brought in to sub.

Jody Hamilton (AKA The Assassin) is restarting Deep South Wrestling with a show on October 25th in McDonough, GA. DSW is formerly a WWE developmental fed but has since cut ties.

Shari Tyree, the ex-wife of the Ultimate Warrior, is writing a tell-all book on the former WWE Heavyweight champion to be titled "Behind the Paint: My Life with Wrestling's Ultimate Warrior". The book is being co-written by Steve Anderson who also worked on Bobby Heenan's biography. The project is still in its first stages and Tyree is shopping around for a publisher to purchase the rights for the book. "Fans, known as 'Little Warriors' screamed and cheered, and then were left baffled by his abrupt disappearance at the height of his success. Only Shari Tyree knows the stunning truth behind the Warrior's face paint. Hellwig was a man possessed by demons, abusing steroids to achieve his massive, muscular frame, and then pain medications and anti-anxiety drugs to quell his fears, who had led a secretive double life that filled his marriage with turmoil and doubts about his fidelity, and even his sexuality," says the preview of the book.

Ricky Morton has been advertised as wrestling at two different shows, in two different states, nearly 600 miles apart on the same day. It was announced last week by Premiere Wrestling Showcase that Morton would be wrestling on their November 22nd event in Andrews, SC. It was announced the week before by National Championship Wrestling that Morton would be taking on NCW Heavyweight Champion King Kahluha in a Steel Cage Match at their event on that same day in York, PA. It will be interesting to see which booking he honors.

Oklafan Associate editor Mike Iles sent a question through the website of J. R.'s Family Bar-B-Q, asking if they had plans to open a restaurant in the Tulsa area. Their response was "Stay Tuned".
