Oklahoma Scoop

Oklahoma Scoop

Posted: Jul 14th 2008 By: mikeiles

NEWS
WWE may be interested in bringing back NWA-OK Oklahoma Champion Brent Albright. Albright recently performed in front of the ComPro crowd under a new identity of Wayne Gator, a bounty hunter gimmick. Rocco Valentino addressed the ComPro crowd and said that one of the things that the WWE looks for in returning individuals is the ability to show them something different, thus the new persona.

Ric Flair's new three disc DVD set entitled "The Definitive Collection" went on sale in stores last Tuesday. The DVD features a long, sit down interview with the Nature Boy talking about everything related to his career, from the start, to the plane crash, winning the NWA title, the 4 Horsemen, his WWE return and much more. Individuals like Triple H, John Cena, Edge, Arn Anderson, Steve Austin, Jim Ross and many many others are interviewed for the documentary. Disc 2 and 3 feature ten of his greatest matches along with extra features including the full farewell from "Monday Night RAW" the day after "WrestleMania XXIV" with the Undertaker and Vince McMahon appearing after the show goes off the air. Shouldn't it had gotten a way bigger push on last Monday's Raw? And shouldn't Ric Flair have been able to run amok on the show if he'd wanted to, since Vince is currently squished?

A local radio station in Charlotte, NC announced that Ric Flair will be giving his hometown a farewell speech on "Smackdown" this week.

It looks like WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is enjoying his new schedule on "Smackdown" just a couple of weeks after posting an angry blog right after being drafted away from "RAW". The next day J. R. wrote another entry explaining his "pissed off" blog from the previous day and vowed to make his "Smackdown" adventure work and make "Smackdown" the number one show on WWE television. Ross wrote in one of his latest blogs that his new schedule allows him to spend more time with his family during the weekends and take care of his restaurants. "This is really the best work schedule that I have ever had and I am really happy that I wrote so many blogs about not wanting to move brands during the draft or, as 'sources close to the decision makers' say, it might not have happened," he jokingly added.

J. R.'s farewell address on RAW will appear on the WWE Night of Champions DVD.

WWE Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston suffered an injury to his eye during his match with Charlie Haas last Monday on "RAW".

Tony Atlas served as guest ring announcer for the main event of ECW World Champion Mark Henry vs. Tommy Dreamer at the ECW live telecast in Baton Rouge, LA. During the match, he attacked Dreamer. Atlas has been in the corcer of Henry during WWE/ECW house shows as of late.

As we reported last week in the Scoop, WWE brought in Mexican star Dos Caras Jr. to the Tulsa "Smackdown" on July 1st for a look see. WWE is looking for a hispanic star to replace Rey Mysterio Jr. on "Smackdown". On the positive side for Caras, he speaks perfect English. Super Luchas reported that John Laurnaitis offered Caras Jr. a contract but when he was told that they were assigning him to Florida Championship Wrestling to learn American style, he turned the offer down.

WWE.com has an article about the Kane "who is he?" storyline, where they have a list of possibilities on who "he" is. Mr. McMahon, Undertaker, Paul Bearer, The Boogeyman, and Ranjin Singh, among others are listed. It maybe a long shot, but it could be a hint at their returns very soon.

The recent Smackdown/ECW tapings in Tulsa will most likely be the last WWE event ever at the Tulsa Convention Center since the BOK Center will be opening in the city this fall.

"MSG Classics" will not air on July 16th due to New York Knicks Summer league Basketball. Here is the lineup for July 23rd:

8:00 Eastern
Tito Santana vs. Ron Bass
Ricky Steamboat vs. The Honky Tonk Man
Demolition (Ax & Smash) vs. Junkyard Dog & George Steele

9:00 Eastern
Hulk Hogan vs. Dominic DeNucci
The Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) vs. Tito Santana & Ivan Putski
Bob Backlund vs. Ken Patera

TNA pulled both Christian Cage and A. J. Styles from the E3 video game convention, claiming other commitments. Christy Hemme, Christopher Daniels, or Curry Man will be taking their place.

Jeff Jarrett recently paid a visit to United States Wrestling Organization promoter Tony Falk following their show in Nashville, TN.

Shawn Matthews III reports to Florida July 14th to officially sign his contract as a TNA talent. He is also scheduled for knee surgery that day. He told Oklafan representatives that it was possible he might be present at the TNA events in Lawton and Muskogee.

Grizzly Smith recently had to cancel his appearance at the NWA Wrestling Legends Fanfest that is scheduled for August 14-17 in Charlotte, NC due to illness.

Abdullah the Butcher was inducted into the NAWA Hall of Fame on July 4th in Cedartown, GA. He then busted his plaque over the head of NAWA promoter Phil Heffner. Bobby Hayes came to Heffner's rescue and they set up a match for later in the show. The match ended in a No Contest.

The Nu Wrestling Entertainment event that saw the return of The Ultimate Warrior in Barcelona, Spain on June 25th was not a sell out. The event drew 12,000 fans in a 14,500 seat arena.

Jake Roberts will be a special guest at the NPC's Mississippi Bodybuilding and Figures championships on July 19th. Local TV station WLBT in Jackson, MS ran a story on it and credited Roberts with being instrumental in creating Wrestlemania (which would have been a hell of a trick since he wasn't in the promotion yet) and he was the first pro wrestler to use props.

John O'Malley underwent knee surgery last Tuesday in Oklahoma City. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.

In the "Oops, we goofed" department, last week we reported the C. M. Punk's WWE RAW World Title victory over Edge in Oklahoma City was the first time a recognized World Heavyweight Title from any organization changed hands on Oklahoma soil. According to our own records, that is not the case. On July 21, 1947 in Tulsa, Buddy Rogers def. Dale Levin for the Midwest version of the NWA (then National Wrestling Association) World Title.
