Oklahoma Scoop

NEWS
A major miscommunication took place this weekend at the SWCW show, as The Roc-N-Roll Cowboy came out and conducted a 10-bell salute for wrestler Jeff Knight. Problem is, Jeff's not dead! The Cowboy sent Oklafan.com an e-mail stating that he had read on our site that Jeff passed away about a month ago. In the same e-mail he stated that people associated with MSWA that he had talked to said that Jeff was still alive. Well, Jeff is alive and wrestled on the MSWA show Sunday to prove it. Apparently, the Cowboy misread what was printed, which was that Jeff's former New York Express partner Jeff Wadell had passed away from a heart attack. In a funny side note, Jeff Knight talked to Oklafan senior editor C. M. Burnham at the MSWA show and asked if his name could be left out of the results for the MSWA show, so he could appear at the SWCW show on June 14th and scare the Roc-N-Roll Cowboy.

The Watts family is releasing a DVD called "Giants, Midgets, Heros, and Villains II" featuring old Mid-South Wrestling matches like Ric Flair vs. Ted DiBiase, DiBiase & King Kong Bundy vs. Steve Williams & Magnum T. A., The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton, w/ Jim Cornette) vs. Jim Duggan & Junkyard Dog, Williams vs. Duggan, One Man Gang vs. Duggan, Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich, JYD vs. Bundy, One Man Gang & The Assassin vs. Ernie Ladd & Mike Sharpe, Butch Reed vs Jim Neidhart, Andre the Giant, JYD, & Mil Mascaras vs. Killer Khan, Gino Hernandez, & Tully Blanchard, JYD vs. The Missing Link, Buzz Sawyer & Dick Slater vs. The Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton) and a lot more.

In his recent blog, Jim Ross wrote that the June 23rd edition of "RAW" will be three hours and will include the WWE Draft.

Ross also wrote that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin has committed to attend the Annual Cauliflower Alley Club Reunion in Las Vegas with Ross himself.

Mick Foley was offered the Smackdown color commentator job about a week before "Backlash".

Ric Flair is expected to be brought to television within the next few weeks, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It may be just a one-time deal to promote the release of his next DVD, which comes out in early July.

WWE made a few Hall of Fame edits for the new Wrestlemania release. The Rock's segment was moved from first on the show, and resequenced to just before the Ric Flair induction. They also edited out JBL's cracks on Dwayne Johnson. WWE removed JBL saying, "The Rock had been out of wrestling so long that he apparently forgot the two most important words in the wrestling business: Go home," and "The Rock was on stage for so long that Ric Flair, the Briscos and Undertaker have sobered up backstage."

Ted DiBiase Jr., son of "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, debuted on "WWE RAW" this past week, recently called up from WWE's developmental fed, Florida Championship Wrestling. There has been talk of WWE forming a new stable consisting of DiBiase Jr., Harry "D.H." Smith (son of Davey Boy Smith), Afa Jr. (son of Afa of The Wild Samoans) and Cody Rhodes (son of Dusty Rhodes) as a second generation stable, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. If Rhodes joins, he'll turn on Hardcore Holly. There has also been talk of Carlito (son of Carlos Colon) serving as the new stable's mouthpiece.

In a recent interview of Santino Marella by the Baltimore Sun, he said the following about Jim Cornette: "Jim Cornette is a loser. Jim Cornette is an insecure person. And controversy creates cash, so maybe one day, Jim Cornette, I?m going to wrap that cheap tennis racquet around you neck. I?d like to have a cage match with Jim Cornette. I?ll put that out on the Worldwide Web right now. Jim Cornette is a misunderstanding person. Look, I?m watching wrestling in the audience ? make it very clear ? just in the audience. My daughter is sitting in front of me. Boogeyman turns to us, [and] I think, 'OK, he?s going to do me a favor because maybe he knows I?m a student in this OVW school, so he?s going to scare my daughter for me, and treat my daughter to an experience.' So I?m happy. If your daughter is going to get an experience like this, you?re going to be happy as a father, right?"

"WWE at The Garden" which airs on MSG Network will air this Wednesday and will include WWF World Champion Bob Backlund against Sgt. Slaughter from May 23rd, 1983 in the first hour. The second hour will feature WWF Intercontinental Champion The Honky Tonk Man vs. Randy Savage, and WWF World Tag Team Champions Strike Force (Rick Martel & Tito Santana) vs. The Hart Foundation (Jim Neidhart & Bret Hart, w/ Jimmy Hart).

If you like hearing Scott Steiner rip on Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Ric Flair there are more stories at Baltimoresun.com/sports/wrestling/blog/2008/05/. He blames Flair for sandbagging him in a "Clash of Champions" match 17 years ago and a lot more and praises Hulk Hogan. It's his opinion and, according to Dave Meltzer, the truth is that during the time Steiner said Flair wasn't drawing, he wasn't drawing. Other times he was a great draw, although Hogan for a career was a far bigger drawing card than Flair.

TNA has been contacting stars from the 1980?s, and is looking to re-create the Randy Savage-Miss Elizabeth WWF wedding when ?Black Machismo? Jay Lethal ?weds? his squeeze, So Cal Val at the 6/8 Slammiversary PPV. Such as Kamala and George ?The Animal? Steele have already been contacted by TNA, and that the company is looking to get in touch with other stars from the era for the Lethal-So Cal Val ceremony.

Hector Guerrero's bio has been added to the TNA webpage. Guerrero also recently represented TNA at a press conference last Thursday at Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.

Pro Wrestling Guerilla will be releasing their first national DVD through Big Vision Entertainment. Amongst the matches on this DVD are Samoa Joe vs. A. J. Styles and Styles vs. James Gibson (AKA Jamie Noble).

The Rochester Post-Bulletin in Rochester, MN has a story about Minnesota sports history, noting listings of sports figures who transformed the state and noting Harmon Killebrew, Fran Tarkenton, Bud Grant and Kirby Puckett didn't make the cut, but two pro wrestlers did, Verne Gagne and Bronko Nagurski (although Bronko made it as a football player but he was a world champion as a pro wrestler).

Bill Goldberg recently did an interview saying that he was done with pro wrestling. Goldberg said that it was a case of philosophical differences between himself and WWE, and a lack of vision in TNA.

There is an article at Tallahassee.com about Will Hudson grabbing a shoplifter yesterday who had pulled a knife on two Wal-Mart employees who caught him stealing DVDs. Hudson, a local pastor grabbed 22-year-old Kevin Bispham in a bearhug from behind and held him for police. Hudson claimed he learned the move watching Ric Flair on television. When has Flair used a reverse bearhug?
