NEWS
Wrestling columnist Mike Mooneyham and his wife were guests of Ric Flair at Wrestlemania on Sunday. Mooneyham and Flair have been friends for years.

As Flair went through the door after his match at WrestleMania, everyone on the roster was there for a standing ovation.

At the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, Ric Flair was inducted by Triple H, the late Gordon Solie was inducted by Jim Ross, The Briscos (Jack Brisco & Jerry Brisco) were inducted by John Bradshaw Layfield, Mae Young was inducted by Pat Patterson, the late Eddie Graham was inducted by Dusty Rhodes, and Rocky Johnson and the late Peter Maivia were both inducted by The Rock.

At the Hall of Fame ceremony, Ric Flair was wearing cuff links of the NWA World Title that were given to him by Triple H.

Ric Flair may be done as an active wrestler, but he still has multi-years left on his WWE contract. Flair's speech at the Hall of Fame ceremony went long, as he put over about everybody he could think of. Triple H was apparently told several times to try to cue Flair to rap up his thoughts.

WWE invited Blackjack Mulligan and limoed he and his wife to the Hall of Fame ceremony because of the Flair induction. Flair and Mulligan were best friends in the late 70's when they owned a van together and would go from town to town and have wild and crazy parties every night. They were also business partners.

The "Thank You Ric Flair" Facebook Group is now open at www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=12520401115.

After the WWE cameras went off at "WWE RAW", The Undertaker's music came on. The wrestlers in the ring parted like the Red Sea on the ramp, and Taker made his way down. He shook Flair's hand, then did his pose, and then gave Flair a huge hug. After Taker it was none other than Vince McMahon. He actually ran. He hugged Flair as if he was marking out. Once Vince stepped out, Flair did the strut, took off his jacket, dropped the elbow on it, dropped the knee, all the classic Flair stuff. This all went on for about 30 mins after the cameras went off. Classic, classic stuff.

During the "Countdown to RAW" show on The Score, host Glenn Schiller interviewed Shane McMahon. Schiller asked Shane what his favorite Ric Flair story that the fans maybe never heard of. Shane's answer was "I can't really go into that on television. It's more private, but Ric is such a class act. He absolutely deserves to be in there (the WWE Hall of Fame). I mean as so many other guys have gave him the accolade, which he deserves, he is the man and there probably will be nobody ever come close to what Ric Flair has accomplished."

There are reports that the original idea for Ric Flair was to do a big retirement tour leading into his farewell match in every major city.

Kane appeared in his 11th straight Wrestlemania on Sunday, while it is eight straight for Undertaker and seven for Flair (two of which were as a second and last year was a dark match). Howard Finkel's appearance was his 24th straight, making him the only man to have appeared on every Wrestlemania. Announcers Carlos Cabrera and Hugo Savinovich were in 13 straight and it was 12 straight for Jim Ross.

Steve Austin and Tony Atlas were in Orlando by Friday. Austin always comes for the Hall of Fame and Atlas was probably there for the same reason.

Regarding the Hall of Fame ceremony, and this didn't apply to Dwayne Johnson, Ric Flair, or Triple H, but everyone underneath was given a strict time limit. They wanted the show over in three hours total.

There was a Hall of Fame press conference Saturday afternoon. Tons of media interest in the Hall of Fame this year as due to Ric Flair, Dwayne Johnson, and for the local media, the old-time Florida ties of Dusty Rhodes, The Briscos, Eddie Graham, and Gordon Solie, it seems to be bigger than even when people like Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart were inducted. Mike Graham accepted for his late father Eddie and Solie's daughter and son-in-law accepted on Gordon's behalf.

Tuesday's Orlando Sentinel at OrlandoSentinel.com had a story about Wednesday night's WrestleManiArt at the City Arts Factory. They noted there were pieces by Vickie Guerrero, Jerry Lawler, Edge, Chuck Palumbo, and Rory McAllister.

Triple H's remark Thursday on Opie & Anthony about MMA (where he said it looked too fake) were completely tongue in cheek. HHH did say he'd like to see Ric Flair retire because he gets worried about Flair getting hurt. Funny thing is, Flair seems to get hurt less than almost every top guy on the roster, even though that makes no sense. He said that he would travel with Flair and it was like the travel and bumps never affected him.

How's this for a weird one. CP24, a 24-hour news channel in Toronto Tuesday night was replaying six minutes of the March 24, 1987 newscast. During the sports coverage, they talked about how WWF was lying in claiming Andre the Giant was undefeated for 15 years (this was just before the Wrestlemania III match with Hulk Hogan) and then showed a clip of The Sheik beating Andre with a fireball to the face in a 1976 Maple Leaf Gardens match.

At one time, WWE Creative came up with an idea that had legendary manager Gary Hart forming a heel stable with Umaga as his top gun called Black Friday Management. However, Vince McMahon was never warm to the idea.

On ESPN radio in New York, Max Kellerman said more people want to talk about Wrestlemania than the NCAA tournament. They talked about Shawn Michaels. A caller said his ladder match was the greatest in Wrestlemania history. Max said the greatest match in Mania history was Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper & Bob Orton. An intern said Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior was the greatest. Later Kellerman said the station people were telling him he was talking too much wrestling.

SI.com published a list of the 24 best WrestleMania matches and several featured Oklahoma talents: #24: Hulk Hogan & Mr. T. vs. Roddy Piper & Bob Orton, Jr. (WM1), #21: Ted DiBiase vs. Randy Savage (WM4), #19: Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage (WM8), #18: Mick Foley vs. Edge (WM22), #14: Piper vs. Bret Hart (WM14), #12: Warrior vs. Randy Savage (WM7), #5: Warrior vs. Hogan (WM6), #1: Andre The Giant vs. Hogan

Former IZW Cruiserweight Champion J. T. LaMotta announced last week on his MySpace blog that he is going to wrestle in Japan. He leaves on April 23rd and will return to the US on May 4th.
