Umaga def. Jim Duggan to qualify for the Royal Rumble

WWE World Women's Champion Beth Phoenix def. Mickie James and Melina in a Triple Threat Match.

Triple H & Ric Flair were backstage. Triple H said thanked Flair for the last few weeks. Flair said he made it sound like everything was over. Triple H said he hoped they could still be friends. Flair said now Triple H was just assuming that he was going to lose. Triple H said at this point in his career, Flair can't expect to win. Flair said looking at Triple H was like looking in the mirror 20 years ago. No matter what, Triple H would always be his friend. He wanted to face The Game tonight. He's in Flair Country. Triple H isn't the man. Triple H said he always strived to be what Flair was. Flair said he may not be what he was, but he still will bring everything he has. Triple H said to bring The Man and he'll beat The Man.

Ric Flair def. Triple H by DQ, preventing Triple H from qualifying for the Royal Rumble.

1-3-08 TNA iMPACT

Jeremy Borash was in the home of TNA World Tag Team Champion A. J. Styles' grandmother. He's heard that Styles was i there and would not be attending the TNA tapings that night. After being let in the house by A. J.'s sister and introduced to other members of the family, Borash knocked on the door where A. J. was. A. J. peeked through the blind covering the window, then told Borash he wasn't there. He won't give an answer to which side he's on and refused to come out, even when his own son knocked. Borash said he's not leaving until they get an answer.

Jim Cornette and Matt Morgan were in the ring. Corette welcomed everyone to the first TNA broadcast of 2008. He ran down the card for the Final Resolution PPV and added a Mixed Tag Team match with Booker T & Sharmell vs. Robert Roode & Ms. Brooks. Samoa Joe then came out and asked Cornette how there could be a PPV without him on it. He's beaten every person Cornette has put in his path and yet he still doesn't have a title shot. But Kevin Nash & "The Phantom of TNA" (Scott Hall) are booked for a shot at the TNA World Tag Team Titles. Kevin Nash then came down to the ring. He said that Scott Hall has more problems in an hour than Joe will have in a lifetime. Nevertheless, the Outsiders have a place in wrestling history. Joe reminds Nash of the Outsiders when they were young. They didn't follow rules and took what they wanted to. Joe said in every pack, there's some old leader that needs to be weeded out. Nash said he won't walk out, so Joe will just have to kick him out. Cornette then intervened and informed us that Scott Hall won't be at the PPV because he has "other plans". This means Nash no longer has a tag team partner and thus has no match. Joe also is not signed for a match. The solution Cornette presented was that if Joe will be Nash's partner, they can be on the show. Otherwise, they're both off. Cornette gives both men some time to think about this.

Back at A. J.'s grandmother's house, Borash brought out A. J.'s 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Mcgillicutty. She said A. J. was always shy as a child, partly due to his bad skin, so his current behaviour comes as no surprise to her. A. J. peeked through the blinds and said that was a lie and besides, bad skin runs in his family. Borash asked if Mrs. McGillicutty wanted to try and reason with him. She said he would be happy to and tried to soft talk him out, but when he told her to go away, this caused her to lose her temper and tell him to "get out here right now, dammit!". She then was very embarassed by this outburst, which also upset the priest at the kitchen table. Borash said he would keep trying.

Still at A. J.'s grandmother's house, Borash was now talking to A. J.'s high school wrestling coach, Coach Butterman (who Borash mistakenly called "Butterbean"). Borash asked if this behaviour surprised him and Coach said not really. He remembered the toughest match that A. J. had in high school against "Redneck" Red Reed. Coach said that Reed was an "alternative girl" from a school district much like what Borash must have attended. This confused Borash until Coach clarified by saying he ment "progressive". Coach described how on the day of the match, Red got in the ring, spit out her dentures and crushed them with her foot. When Coach looked over at A. J. after this, he saw a little stream of yellow spurting out of A. J.'s pants. This comment brought A. J. out of his room. He said he got some Moutain Dew all over himself right before the match ad it was't pee. He ran back into the room. Coach yelled at him through the door and Borash went to commercial.

When they got back from commercial, Borash was talking to A. J.'s sister Mary Jane, who askes to just be called "M. J.". She told A. J. that he better get out or she would tell the people something they don't know about him. A. J. told her to go away. M. J. then began to tell a story about how A. J. was a frisky teenager and she came home one day and found him in the bathroom. A. J. burst out of his room and demanded that M. J. stop, then said she was ugly and went back in the room. He quickly reemerged and asked M. J. if she could get him a bologna sandwich and a YooHoo because he was starving. She said she'd do that when he revealed which side he was on. A. J. again retreated to the room, but came out one more time, asking Borash if he had TNA World Tag Team Champion Tomko's phone number, since he must have changed it because A. J. couldn't get in touch with him. Borash said no.

The show returned to A. J.'s grandmother's house and Borash was now speaking to the clergy member present. After a bit of trouble with the priest hearing Borash, he finally said that A. J. was a former altar boy and the whole parish looked up to him. Borash asked the priest if he had chosen between Christian Cage and TNA World Champion Kurt Angle. The priest said he had chosen Christian. A. J. came out and reminded everyone that they were Baptist, then went back in the room. The priest looked shocked, then said that wasn't A. J. Snipes. Borash promised to stay until a decision was made. The priest asked him if he had anything he needed to confess.

One final time at A. J.'s grandmother's house, Borash told A. J. that time was running out and he needed an answer. A. J. came out and after a bit of an internal struggle, announced that he would be takig Cage's side. Borash congratulated Cage, but A. J. changed his mind and said he'd be on Angle's side. Borash hasked if he was sure and A. J. said yes, but then said he was taking "Cangle's" side. Then he got very frustrated and told everyone that he'd make his announcement at the Final Resolution PPV and it would be the right decision. He then told everyone to get out of his granny's house.
