Oklahoma Scoop

NEWS
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross spent the entire weekend of September 21-23 in and around Oklahoma. On the Friday 21st, he attended the Oklahoma vs. Tulsa college football game in Tulsa. On Saturday the 22nd, he and Steve Austin signed approximately 1300 autographs in the 2 1/2 hours before a Monster Truck Rally at the Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City. On Sunday the 23rd, Ross and his wife took Austin to his barbeque restaurant in Norman which Austin rated as "an absolute A+".

Speaking of Jim Ross and his restaurant in Norman, due to the success of his first restaurant, he will be opening a second restaurant in the spring of 2008 in Moore, OK. It was also recently announced that Ross is still working on the details to take his Bar-B-Q trailer to the State Fair of Texas in conjunction with the Oklahoma-Texas football game.

Ross also recently answered a question from a fan named Santino regarding The Naturals (Andy Douglas & Chase Stevens): "I never cancelled any thing involving the tag team of The Naturals. Uh, Santino I don?t work in the corporate office any longer and haven?t for quite some time. I would assume if the team is good enough they will get another look some day if it is meant to be. It took me almost 20 years to make it to the WWE for the record. I know that is like comparing apples vs. oranges but the point is getting to the big time is a long, hard ride."

The WWE Superstars who got suspended in connection with the Signature Pharmacy case - minus King Booker - are expected to be back to work on RAW tomorrow and Smackdown!/ECW on Tuesday as the 30 day suspension is over. Mr Kennedy, Charlie Haas, William Regal and Umaga return to RAW while Chavo Guerrero, Jr. and Funaki go back to Smackdown! and John Morrison to ECW. The injured Edge and Gregory Helms were also suspended but they are still not cleared to compete.

WWE Smackdown World Champion Batista will be defending teh title against The Undertaker, Mark Henry, and The Great Khali in a Fatal Four Way Match at WWE's "Cyber Sunday" pay-per-view event in October 28th in Washington DC. The special guest referee that fans can vote on will be either Roddy Piper, Mick Foley, or Steve Austin.

Ric Flair was on the sidelines at the University of South Carolina vs. Mississippi State game in Columbia, SC. There were shots of Flair and his wife together along with Flair giving out his signature, "Whoo!" He also taped a future "Game is On" marketing ad for the school.

In previewing Saturday's Ohio State vs. Minnesota game on ESPN 2, the Canton, OH newspaper listed famous people who attended the University of Minnesota. Among those listed were Loni Anderson, Bob Dylan (who didn't graduate), Ric Flair (who attended on a football scholarship but never went to class and was academically disqualified), Walter Mondale (former candidate for president whose daughter used to be the girlfriend of Road Warrior Hawk) and Hubert Humphrey (Vice President under Lyndon Johnson who lost a close race to Richard Nixon in the 1968 presidential election).

The storyline involving Teddy Long and Viagra is from the mastermind of Smackdown head writer Michael Hayes.

WWE's John Cena DVD entitled "My Life" will be released on November 16th and will include a match from the March 27, 2003 Smackdown against Rikishi.

WWE developmental fed Florida Championship Wrestling announced that due to the success of the ?Wrestling for Whiskers? event in New Port Richey, FL, they will holding weekly shows every Tuesday night. FCW's roster boasts former University of Oklahoma standout Jake Hager, Ted Hart (nephew of Bret Hart & Owen Hart), Afa Anoai (son of Afa of The Wild Samoans), FCW Champion Harry Smith (son of Davey Boy Smith), Ted DiBiase Jr. (son of Ted DiBiase), Nattie Neidhart (daughter of Jim Neidhart), and Lacey Von Erich (daughter of Kerry Von Erich). They also recently opened their website at FCWwrestling.com/main.htm

WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper became an honorary member of the COBRA forces at the recent G.I. Joe Convention in Atlanta, GA. Attendees of the convention were able to purchase an exclusive, limited edition Piper 3 3/4 inch scale action figure.

New TNA Superstar posters for Kurt Angle, Sting, Christian Cage and Samoa Joe are now available at select Wal-Mart stores nationwide.

Word is that Ricky Morton was released from jail on September 24th.

Buddy Landell, 46, is coming out of retirement again to work tag team matches with Matt Riviera.

Oklahoma City wrestling mainstay Joe the Sound Guy worked his final show Sunday. A mainstay of the OKC area for 3 years, Joe has been the DJ for MSWA, AACW & SWCW. He has also filled in on a couple of occasions doing ring announcing for AACW. Joe told Oklafan that he never had a bad time in the business and cites his favourite experience as making a show start 30 minutes late because he was talking with Al Snow too long. Oklafan wishes Joe the best on his new endeavours

From the news of bizarre comes this: One Warrior Nation, a wrestler who claims to have been the stand-in for the Ultimate Warrior during his original WWF run, was the guest on the September 27th edition of the In Your Head radio show, hosted by Jack, One Inch Biceps and Barbie Richards atInYourHeadOnline.com. When asked by Jack, one of the cohosts, to explain his claim that he worked as a replacement for the Ultimate Warrior in the WWF. OWN said there were binding legal issues that prevented him from discussing the matter. "I've got a choke hold on me," he explained, but promised "seeing is believing."

Oklafan sends out well wishes to AACW Champion AWOL, who was involved in a serious accident Friday at 2pm. AWOL was on his motorcycle when another car ran a red light and slammed into him, throwing him from his bike. AWOL suffered a fractured back, a bruised lung, a chipped tooth and some extensive road rash. He was released from the hospital on Sunday and is expected to make a full recovery, although it is quite unlikely that he will be able to compete for the rest of the year. Although an official announcement has not been made, it is expected that AWOL will be forced to vacate his AACW Title sometime before their next show on November 16th. AWOL recently marked 6 months as AACW Heavyweight Champion. He defeated Mustafa Sharmoot for the title on March 23, 2007 at an AACW show in Banning, CA.

Other title reigns that recently surpassed 6 months:
Canadian Red Devil - won the FCW Heavyweight Title from Rocco Valentino on March 17, 2007
John O'Malley - defeated Ryan Davidson for the IZW Impact Division Title on March 17, 2007
