The Scoop

NEWS
Jerry Lawler recently gave his opinion as to why The Undertaker was in Brooklyn, NY during SummerSlam weekend. He said “I did not see or hear him mentioned at all [backstage at SummerSlam], I dress in the talent relations room where at one point or another everybody on the card came through that room and I never saw him. Here’s something that I just realized. He may have been there because they were doing scans for a new game. Everybody that was on the show that night, myself included, had to be scanned. This company, it’s not the 2K people, it’s a different game that’s gonna be coming out next year. So everybody had to have their face scans and their body scans.”

WWE sent out a questionnaire asking fans to list their favorite current and past wrestlers up to ten. Everyone on the main roster and the guys getting NXT TV time were listed as well as stars from the past including Andre the Giant and Bruno Sammartino along with others that you would expect.

Those who appeared at last Friday night's WWE 2K Party, where they shot the angle with Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins vs. Sheamus & Cesaro were Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, Kurt Angle, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, & Xavier Woods), Bayley, Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, Tyler Breeze, Fandango, Finn Balor, Bray Wyatt, Jinder Mahal, and A. J. Styles. The biggest media question for a lot of them was their thoughts on the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match.

Charlotte Flair, who was absent from SummerSlam weekend, posted somewhat of a positive message on her Instagram last night along with a photo of her father and herself holding hands on a hospital bed. “After an incredibly hard week, my dad is getting better. There is still a long road to go and he’s not out of the woods just yet but I want to again thank everyone for their support on behalf of myself and my family,” Charlotte wrote. She encouraged her fellow WWE Superstars to “give a little extra flair for him” during SummerSlam and said that everyone knows he would be backstage at the show if he could.

Roman Reigns appeared on ESPN's "SportsCenter" last week and was asked about Ric Flair. He said “Well, for me I’m a generational superstar, my father, my uncle, multiple cousins, (and) my brother, they were all within the WWE, they all wrestled. And that’s one thing you can kind of tell – even all the way up to the McMahons – that this is a family business and it runs Ric Flair deep. Even now, (Ric Flair) has a daughter who’s been a great performer, great champion, and spokesperson for the women of WWE and WWE, in general. To see something like this happen, I don’t know enough details to share, but all I know is I’m great friends with Ric. I’ve been on many tours and just hung out with him and spoke with him, he’s just such a genuine man. Such a good time, eccentric, such a charismatic person, but such a kind guy. If you’re friends with him, you’ll know it, he’ll love on ya and just all my prayers and thoughts are with him, Charlotte, and the rest of their family. I hope for a speedy recovery, and Ric, bring your butt back, we need you on tour. And that’s coming straight from the ‘Big Dog’ right here. We need ya back, man.”

In a recent interview with Newsday, Kurt Angle revealed some advice he got from Ric Flair. He said “Ric was the guy that I got advice from before I started in the business. He’s the one that redirected me from [World Championship Wrestling] to WWE, told me Vince McMahon would know what to do with me, and said not to go to WCW. But what I learned from Ric was how to give to the business and not take. He always made sure his opponent looked better than he did. What was important to him was the match, not himself, and I took that advice and made sure when I performed in the ring I made my opponent look better than me, and I made sure it was the best match I could possibly make it. He was a very giving wrestler, and I did the same because of Ric Flair.”

Jim Ross and Lita were brought to the WWE Studios in Stamford, CT this past week to re-voice over some of the "Mae Young Classic" shows. No news as to why they had to do them again.

Paul Heyman bought 300 orders of shrimp tempura for the people who attended the show he did with Jim Ross last Friday night at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. Heyman said it wasn't just shrimp tempura but the best shrimp tempura in the city. The show was said to be entertaining with a very emotional ending when Heyman talked about JR's late wifeJan Ross, talking her up so much Jim was crying on stage and a lot of people in attendance were crying as well.

Footage from the "Ringside with Jim Ross" show held last Friday at Gotham Comedy Club in New York City where Paul Heyman made Jim Ross cry for six straight minutes found its way online. Heyman was the special guest of JR on this show and towards the end, Heyman recounted the story of when Ross called him to see if he would be available to appear. When Heyman asked JR why would he open up himself to such vulnerable circumstances considering the death of his wife earlier this year, Ross replied saying that because when he’s up there with the fans, he feels at home and they make him feel good. At that point, Ross started crying, along with some members of the audience as well. Heyman continued to put over JR for the work he did over the years in the business and how he always had his back dating back to the early WCW days. Heyman held JR’s hand throughout the segment and after multiple standing ovations, he told the crowd that the final curtain call should be just to Jim Ross, and he left the stage after giving a hug and a kiss to the WWE Hall of Famer.
