JR's Blog: RINGSIDE NYC, @MaeYoungClassic, #UFCOKC, HUGE Week for @AXSTV/NJPW, @WWEDanielBryan, @TheJimCornette on new, Ross Report Podcast!!

Posted: Jun 27th 2017 By: Jim Ross

Greetings everyone and here's hoping that everyone had an enjoyable weekend. Great week on tap here for sure highlighted by a ton of work for AXSTV in Southern California. We're burning daylight...

Tickets for our RINGSIDE Show in NYC at the Gotham Comedy Club go on sale this Tuesday June 27 at www.gothamcomedyclub.com. One show only on Friday night August 18 to kickoff Summer Slam weekend with a huge, surprise guest that my team isn't even aware of at this time.

Getting ready for several days of work in Los Angeles and in Long Beach in conjunction with AXSTV and NJPW's most anticipated weekend in the history of their business relationship.

Friday night we wil present on AXSTV a double header that includes Okada vs Omega 2 and Tanahashi vs Naito for the IC Tile from Dominion. Josh Barnett and I will VO those matches and more on Tuesday at the AXSTV studios.

On Thursday we move to Long Beach to prepare for the live broadcast of NJPW on AXSTV that airs live on Saturday July 1 starting at 5 pm PT/8pm ET. A four hour window is being set aside for this historic, live TV broadcast.Set your DVR's accordingly.

I will be in prep mode all week for what seems to be a somewhat info heavy series of televised events. Thanks goodness @JoshLBarnett is my broadcast partner.

This week's Ross Report Podcast features the one and only Jim Cornette who has plenty of compelling things to say about a variety of topics as only JC can pontificate. The Louisville Lip is not only a great podcaster but he;s also hard to beat as a guest as he has proven many times in the past.

@TheJimCornette and I discuss many timely topics including an extended booking scenario for the much anticipated Brock-Joe bout in Dallas at Great Balls of Fire.

Subscribe for free to The Ross Report on @ApplePodcasts and get our show automatically downloaded into the device of your choice every Tuesday at 9 ET when a new show drops.

We appreciate your support in the ever growing world of pro wrestling podcasts which, sadly, sees many of our peers rarely or never support each other. It reminds me of egocentric territory wrestling promoters who rarely tried to grow the overall business but instead only wanted their piece of the action to prosper.

Slammiversary on PPV is this Sunday on the @FITE App and I have an interesting bit of info on that show this week on our new, Ross Report. IMO, this is a 'must win' event for Impact Wrestling as it relates to having a kick ass show and to encourage disconnected fans to give their embattled brand a shot.

Enjoyed attending UFC Fight Night Oklahoma Sunday night in OKC. UFC does a terrific job in producing a live event that is being broadcast on TV ala @WWE. Some companies do live events well while others do TV production well but both UFC and WWE check the boxes on both these matters.

After watching @BellatorMMA and @UFC over the weekend it seems that both companies, and by the way Bellator has improved greatly but they are still miles away from overtaking UFC, but like any pro wrestling company they are both in dire need of getting more young fighters 'over' and and in the psyche of MMA fans to be perceived a s main event talent.

This is not a new issue and is also one that never subsides as any smart promotional company that promotes combat sports or sports entertainment is faced with this issue daily and will be forever.

Calling today's MMA reminds me of how many pro wrestling promotions wanted their broadcasters to call that genre back in the day. Nothing on my radar is more challenging to broadcast than is por wrestling because of all the nuances that cross pollinate reality based sports and entertainment. Broadcasting boxing is even more 'straight forward.'

Seems as if Daniel Bryan is having some fun trolling social media as he teases a return to the ring which I seriously doubt will or should ever happen. If his existing medical condition put DB in a higher risk category, then he needs to be the responsible husband and father and refrain from lacing up his boots again. Don't get me wrong, if DB could safely resume his career I'd be all for it as he is one of the great talents in recent memory.

Saw on Twitter @MaeYoungClassic that yours truly would officially broadcasting with @AmyDumas the upcoming, global women's tournament for @WWE that will air on the @WWENetwork. I'm honored to be assigned this event with WWE HOFER Amy Dumas aka Lita and to help advance the development of women's wrestling in the business.

If you expect Amy and I to do all we can to kick some serious ass on these broadcasts, then you would be correct!

Happy Birthday to my dear friend and fellow Hall of Famer JJ Dillon who is also jumping into the podcast game and I'm sure he will do great. Much respect here for JJ Dillon.

Go out and be a better person today than you were yesterday and remember that our tomorrow's are never guaranteed.
