NEWS
Jinder Mahal will be facing Randy Orton for the WWE Title at the "Backlash" pay-per-view on May 21st. One of the reasons why WWE might be pushing Jinder Mahal and his new alliance with The Singh Brothers is because of WWE’s continued expansion in India, and WWE’s Indian Shop website launching. Additionally, The Wrestling Observer is reporting another reason why WWE feels comfortable with the Orton vs. Mahal PPV main event is because of the change in WWE’s PPV model from “pay-per-view” to “WWE Network special.” If WWE Backlash were a traditional PPV, in which fans would have to spend $50+ to watch, the event would likely draw a low buy rate due to the less attractive main event. However, because many WWE fans might view Backlash as “a $9.99 event”, there is less pressure to deliver and the company is confident enough to experiment more with their matches.

WWE has a new poll asking fans what has surprised them the most about Jinder Mahal since making his return to the company – his impressive physique, joining forces with The Singh Brothers, how quickly he became the No. 1 contender, stealing the WWE Title from Randy Orton or attacking Orton with the stolen belt at Payback. As of this writing, 53% went with how quickly he earned a title shot while 20% voted for his physique, 17% for stealing the WWE Title belt and 5% for both of the other options.

Kevin Owens defending the WWE United States Title against A. J. Styles was officially announced for the "Backlash" card after last Tuesday night's main event.

Kevin Von Erich did not appear on last Wednesday at the Cauliflower Alley Club banquet to get the Lou Thesz/Art Abrams Career Achievement award. He sent word that he couldn't attend due to personal reasons and son Marshall Von Erich accepted for him.

Bill Goldberg has been announced for a special appearance at The Sugar Factory in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 20th. Fans can get a photo and autograph with Goldberg for just $20 or pay $75 for the “Meet, Greet and Eat!” package. As seen below, fans can try the limited edition “Gold-Burger” with a gold glazed bun, double Angus beef patties, melted white & yellow cheddar and onion rings, served with pickles, lettuce, tomato, Sugar Factory sauce and hand-cut fries. Apparently the burger was crafted by the former WWE Universal Champion.

There will be a Memphis Hall of Fame ceremony on May 13th at Jerry Lawler's restaurant. There will be introduction of Lawler, Bill Dundee, Jimmy Hart, Jim Cornette, Bobby Eaton, The Gilbert Family, Koko B. Ware, and Jerry Calhoun, as well as a meet and greet, with Brandon Baxter as the emcee.

Billy Corgan of the band Smashing Pumpkins has purchased the National Wrestling Alliance. At this time, there is no active NWA affiliate in the state of Oklahoma. Corgan founded Resistance Pro Wrestling with Jacques and Gabe Baron in 2011 but left the company in 2014. He joined TNA in April 2015 and was named president of the company in August 2016. He left TNA in November 2016.

Leilani Kai now has ownership stake in NWA Florida Wrestling Alliance. She posted on Facebook "I am extremely proud to announce that I now have a ownership stake in NWA Florida Wrestling Alliance. I would like to thank Tony Halligan and the NWA for allowing me a opportunity to take my career full circle. I started my career in the NWA. Looking back on my career, I've accomplished many things and held many titles. But what I cherish more than any titles I've held, any great matches that ive had, what I cherish more are the relationships that I've made, the people that I've worked with, the wrestlers that I've wrestled alongside, the friends and family...that's what I cherish most. With this move, I'm allowed the opportunity to continue to build relationships and to do as much as I can for professional wrestling in Florida. I grew up with pro wrestling in Florida. It was a huge part of my childhood, a major part of my adult life and I look forward to making professional wrestling a great part of future generations lives. I look forward to great events, excellent matches and some strong venues!"
