NEWS
In a decision long overdue, “Ravishing” Rick Rude was announced as the newest member of the WWE Hall of Fame, Class of 2017. Rude, who passed away in 1999 at the age of 40, was one of the most gifted wrestlers and wrestled for the NWA, WCCW, Jim Crockett, WWE, WCW, and ECW. Trained under Eddie Sharkey, Rude made his professional wrestling debut in 1982 in the NWA, before moving to Championship Wrestling from Florida two years later. He was managed by Percy Pringle, the man later known as Paul Bearer, while down in Florida. In 1985, along with Pringle, he moved to World Class Championship Wrestling and then jumped ship again to Jim Crockett Promotions in 1986. In 1987, Rude’s big break in pro wrestling came when he joined the WWF and quickly aligned himself with Bobby Heenan and became part of The Heenan Family. Rude had some epic feuds in WWE, including two famous ones with Jake “The Snake” Roberts and The Ultimate Warrior. Rude’s WWF journey was not long and in 1991 he joined WCW, making his debut as the masked Phantom at "Halloween Havoc". Rude joined The Dangerous Alliance and had feuds with Sting, Nikita Koloff, Ron Simmons, and many others. In 1993, he defeated Ric Flair to become the new NWA World Champion, which is probably one of the best highlights of his career. After a short stint in ECW in 1997, Rude joined the WWF again that same year and aligned himself with D-Generation X. He made history in November of that year by appearing on "WWF Monday Night RAW" and "WCW Monday Nitro" at the same time, made possible due to RAW being pre-taped and Nitro being live, starting his second stint with WCW which ran until 1999. While in WWF, he won the Intercontinental Title once and in WCW he won the International World Heavyweight Title three times and the United States Title once. Rick Rude died on April 20, 1999 after suffering from heart failure which was caused from an overdose of mixed drugs. He has three children, but his youngest son, Colton, died in September of last year at the age of 19 in a motorcycle accident.

After Rick Rude was announced as the newest inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, Triple H posted on Twitter "An intense and celebrated in-ring competitor, #RickRude was#Ravishing, An #Icon, An #EarlyDegenerate…and now a @WWE Hall of Famer."

Curtis Axel also tweeted about Rick Rude's WWE Hall of Fame induction. He posted "Him and my dad were friends since high school. Was like an uncle to me. This is well deserved! Congratulations #RickRude#WWEHOF2017".

The WWE Network Collection on 2017 WWE Hall of Famers was updated last Friday at 10am EST with Rick Rude content. The collection also features Kurt Angle, Diamond Dallas Page, Beth Phoenix, Teddy Long and The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson).

With his WWE Universal Title at "Fastlane", Bill Goldberg became the second oldest champion to carry a major singles title in the WWE, surpassed only by Vince McMahon. McMahon was 53 years old on September 14, 1999 when he won the WWF World Title from Triple H on an episode of SmackDown in Las Vegas, NV. Vince did another title run in 2007 at nearly 61 years of age when he won the ECW World Title at "Backlash" in April 2007, defeating Bobby Lashley. Goldberg becomes the Universal Champion at 50 years of age, and this is only his third run with a major singles world title in his wrestling career. He won the WCW World Title once and the World Heavyweight title once while in WWE before.

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, plans for Wrestlemania 33 have only seen minor changes recently, but the Goldberg versus Brock Lesnar Universal Championship Match has been penciled in as the last match of the night. Unless WWE does change course, Brock Lesnar is slated to win the title, the reason Goldberg had such a dominant showing at "Survivor Series" and "Royal Rumble" was so the end of the feud would see Lesnar finally go over. It was noted that Goldberg’s contract expires after "WrestleMania 33", but they could always sign him for a longer stretch, and this this title match likely won’t be a long one based on Goldberg’s last two reigns.

A. J. Styles confronted SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon after his #1 contendership loss to Randy Orton on last week’s SmackDown. Styles went off on Shane about how he was supposed to be in the WrestleMania 33 main event. “Road Dogg” Brian James, Michael Hayes, and others tried to break things up as Styles wass escorted out of the production area. It has been rumored that Styles will now face Shane McMahon at "WrestleMania 33".

Jack Swagger's release from WWE was made official today.

Jerry “The King” Lawler was supposed to travel to the United Kingdom next week for five spoken word shows but all events have been canceled according to ticket processor Ticketline. Reports are that an email was sent out to all ticket holders with the text, “Due to circumstances beyond both Eros Comedy & Jerry Lawler’s control we’ve been left with no alternative except to postpone his tour currently scheduled for next week. Obviously, this is going to be beyond gutting for all the fans that were looking forward to hearing The King’s stories and meeting the man himself.” Eros Comedy was the promoter for the shows. The statement also said that they are working on rescheduling the tour for later this year but no exact dates can be provided for now. The tour was supposed to start on March 15th in Birmingham, England then London, England on the March 16th, Manchester, England on March 17th, Glasgow, Scotland on March 18th, and Belfast, Ireland on March 19th. Fans who purchased a ticket will be refunded via the point of sale for each venue and will go back to the payment method used for booking them.

In a report from ProWrestlingSheet.com, Jeff Jarrett apparently met with Scott Fishman, Senior Vice President and Executive Producer of Spike TV, backstage at the recent "Impact Wrestling" television tapings in Orlando, FL. It is being said that the two discussed several topics like Impact Wrestling’s recent television deal with Spike TV U.K., that will begin to air episodes of the program this April. Additionally, there’s currently a rumor being floated that the two also discussed a possible return of "Impact Wrestling" to the United States version of Spike TV. Fishman was said to be “instrumental in developing” Impact Wrestling in the early days of the company and seems to be interested in the possibility of "Impact Wrestling" making a return to the network once their contract with POP TV expires later this year.

It will likely be announced shortly that Anthem Entertainment and ITV have reached a deal. This was the deal Jeff Jarrett was working on as ITV wants a wrestling show for the United Kingdom but doesn't want to run a wrestling promotion. So the two companies will be partnering in some form on a promotion.

Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp. sent out a press release about "IMPACT Wrestling" and its inaugural show that aired on PopTV on March 9, 2017. According to the release, "viewership on PopTV held steady week over week, but viewership on the IMPACT Wrestling YouTube channel and other social media outlets exploded, with new content attracting more than 2.4 million views through the weekend, an increase of more than 275% over the same period last week." As well, there was a quote from the boss -- “We are thrilled to see this response from our fans. We wanted to deliver an on-screen product with a new energy that would captivate our audience. Early signs are that we are on the right track,” said Jeff Jarrett, Chief Creative Officer for IMPACT Wrestling. “The new on-screen branding was matched with new graphics across all IMPACT Wrestling platforms. The thrilling and exciting new open to the show and the abundance of new content across all platforms, including digital, reflect the enthusiastic energy that Kevin Sullivan has brought with him in his return to the show as Vice President of Production.”

A play called "Sam and Dede" premiered off Broadway in New York, NY at the 59E59 Theater Thursday night. It's based on the friendship that Samuel Beckett, the famous writer, had with a teenage Andre Roussimoff, who grew up to be Andre the Giant.

National Wrasslin' League posted on Twitter "#BREAKING @maxedwards_nwl is OUT indefinitely. Thanks again to @MileHighMagnum for yet another painful interruption. Please stay tuned."

Oklafan extends condolences to Bernard Funk on the passing of his aunt Starla on Tuesday.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Ron Bass, who passed away due to a burst appendix on March 7, 2017. He was 68 years old. Bass, whose real name was Ronald Heard, began competing in 1971. His first notable break came in the Southeastern territory run by the Fields brothers where he was brought in and billed as a brother (or sometimes a cousin) of Don Bass & Bobby Bass as well as the son of manager Maw Bass. The next huge step for him came with a move to the Florida territory, where he would be introduced as a childhood friend of Dusty Rhodes, before turning on Rhodes and feuding with him as well as the Windhams. Bass would be managed by J. J. Dillon and would eventually move to Jim Crockett Promotions, where true national attention would come to him due to cable expansion of wrestling. Bass competed there until being called into the WWF, where he finished his career as a mid-card heel, fighting against the likes of the Junkyard Dog, Hillbilly Jim, and a particularly notable feud against Brutus Beefcake that saw Bass slice up Beefcake's face with one of his spurs. This was considered so violent that it was heavily censored when shown on TV. Bass retired in 1989 and spent his retirement years as a sales representative for a construction supply company. Bass amassed a slew of championships during his career, including the TSW Brass Knucks Title on two occassions. His first reign came on November 9, 1978 when he defeated Randy Tyler in what was probably a tournament final for the title. It is unclear how long he held the belt, but he would lose it to Karl Kox, then regain it from Kox on December 25, 1978. This second title run would last 2 and 1/2 months before he lost it to Mike Sharpe, Jr. on March 12, 1979. Bass has 16 documented appearances in Oklahoma. The earliest came on January 25, 1974 when he teamed with Don Bass and defeated Oni Wiki Wiki & Red McKim at a TSW event in Oklahoma City. That last was July 21, 1987 where he faced Scott Casey at a WWF event in Oklahoma City. The result of that match is unknown.

“Outlaw” Ron Bass (Ronald Heard) passed away on March 7th in Tampa, FL reportedly due to complications from surgery. He was 68 years old. He had been hospitalized after suffering a burst appendix but reportedly waited a week before seeking medical attention as he was not aware of the burst, according to PWInsider.

Greg Oliver of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story entitled "'Outlaw' Ron Bass dead at 68" which you can read by clicking here.

WWE issued the following statement on the passing of Ron Bass:

“Outlaw” Ron Bass passes away

WWE is saddened to learn that Ronald Heard, known to sports-entertainment fans as “Outlaw” Ron Bass, has passed away at the age of 68.

Debuting in 1975, the tough Texan performed in several NWA territories, including Jim Crockett Promotions and Florida Championship Wrestling.

It was in 1987 that Bass rose to national fame in WWE. With his ruthless attitude and dreaded bullwhip, Bass battled against classic fan favorites like Junkyard Dog and Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake. He even claimed a pinfall victory over a young Shawn Michaels in the 1988 King of the Ring tournament.

Following his retirement from the ring in 1991, Bass earned a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State University and became a successful construction equipment salesman.

WWE extends its condolences to Heard’s family, friends and fans.
