Other Facts: -Real name was Ronald Read
-Joined the Marines and started working out on a regular basis to build up his muscle mass.
-Got involved with body building and placed second in the 1960 Mr. Washington DC bodybuilding contest.
-Formerly known as Ron Reed, not to be confused of the Major League Baseball pitcher of the same name. As Reed, he used the nicknames "Handsome" and "Cowboy"
-As Nils Anderson, he was billed as the brother of Gene, Lars & Ole Anderson. He wore a mask as Nils because he was competing as an amateur outside of pro wrestling and did not want to lose his amateur status.
-On February 20, 1975, Colt was piloting a Cessna 182 from Miami to Tampa with passengers Bobby Shane, Gary Hart, and Mike McCord (AKA Austin Idol). There was some bad weather, so Colt was forced to land at the airport on the nearby Davis Island but missed the landing and the engine stalled and they ended up crashing nose-first into the water. Colt, Hart, and McCord were all able to free themselves from the wreckage and swim to safety but Shane was not as lucky. He drowned and passed away at the age of 29. Colt's right ankle was shattered and his in-ring career ended at this point.
-After the plane crash, Colt spent the remainder of his career as a color commentator for the Florida wrestling television shows.
-Passed away March 3, 2021 at the age of 85.
