Other Facts: -Never actually served in the Marine corps. He was disqualified from serving because he had a lazy eye
-Took his name from a character portrayed by Jackie Gleason in the movie "Soldier In the Rain". His character drew on his experiences as a DI in the Marine Corps as well as Jack Webb’s portrayal of a DI in “The D. I.”
-Attended a pro wrestling camp hosted by Verne Gagne and Billy Robinson. Gagne asked for a volunteer to get in the ring and have Robinson put some holds on him. According to Greg Gagne, Robinson liked to take advantage of the younger guys and tried to break Slaughter's foot. This caused a physical altercation between Slaughter and Robinson, which Slaughter was triumphant in.
-Gained a huge amount of success and exposure as a Patriotic Military wrestler in the American Wrestling Association.
-Wrestled Paul Perschman in his debut match. It was a 10 minute match where whoever got the most pinfalls in that time won the match. Slaughter won 3-0.
-As Bobby Remus, he used the nickname "Beautiful"
-As Bob Remus, he used the nickname “Bruiser” Bob Remus
-As Bob Slaughter, he used the nicknames "Big","The Claw" & "The D. I."
-Wrestled under a mask as Super Destroyer Mark II. He was unmasked by Dr. X in a Mask-vs-Mask Match
-During the mid-1980s, Sgt. Slaughter released a full length LP, The Cobra Clutch. It featured a number of original songs, including the title song, as well as a cover of Neil Diamond's "America". Slaughter's friend (presumably the songwriter) did most of the singing; Slaughter's contribution was generally just a few lines in each chorus, as he was not a great singer. The album was not well received, and few copies were sold.
-Sgt. Slaughter's character was portrayed in the cartoon "G.I. JOE". His contract with Hasbro to become the spokesperson for G. I. Joe actually caused him to have to leave the WWF as, at the same time, Vince McMahon had signed a contract with LJN and considered it a conflict of interest. This directly contradicts the "McMahon" DVD released by WWE, where Slaughters said he was fired from the WWF for requesting 6 weeks paid vacation.
-While in the AWA, was announced as hailing from Eden Prairie, MN
-Was not originally scheduled to win the WWF World Title at the Royal Rumble in 1991. It was supposed to go to Randy Savage, but Savage broke his wrist, so Slaughter was put into all of Savage’s matches and won the title.
-Appeared in the movie "The Bad Guys"
-Was featured in the WWE DVD "The Greatest Wrestling Stars of the '80's"
-Former on-screen commissioner of the WWF
-Former member of the Triangle of Terror
-Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004
-Inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in 2016
-Received the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame's Frank Gotch Award in 2019
-Voted Most Hated Wrestler by the readers of Pro Wrestling Illustrated in 1991
-Voted Inspirational Wrestler of the Year by the readers of Pro Wrestling Illustrated in 1984
-Ranked # 36 in the 1991 PWI 500
-Ranked # 81 in the 1992 PWI 500
-Ranked # 238 in the 1994 PWI 500
-Ranked # 303 in the 1995 PWI 500
