Other Facts: -Real name was Byron James John Robertson. He went by Dewey, a childhood nickname.
-Not to be confused with The Missing Link that competed in NWA Hawaii, which was actually Pampero Firpo
-Actually from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
-Former husband of his valet Sheena
-Father of pro wrestlers Jason Sterling (AKA Son of Link) and Mark Sterling (not to be confused with the Mark Sterling from Kansas City, MO and has a bio here on Oklafan, nor the Mark Sterling that works for AEW)
-Owned a gym in Burlington, Ontario, Canada for a few years in the 70s and appeared in a TV commercial as Dewey Robertson tearing up a phone book.
-Had a respectable career wrestling as Dewey Robertson before becoming The Missing Link. In fact all 17 documented title reigns came as Robertson and none as Link.
-Tagged with Billy Red Lyons as the masked team The Crusaders. Their masks, tights, and build were so similar, you could not tell them apart.
-He was unmasked as The Crusader by The Sheik on July 4, 1974, but the fans liked the character so much, he continued to wrestle as The Crusader and donned the mask again.
-In 1984, Robertson had become disenchanted with the Kansas City area. After speaking with Gene Lewis, who had moved to WCCW and become The Mongol, he decided to move to WCCW as well to try and be Mongol's partner, despite Lewis telling him WCCW had enough heels. Robertson arrived in Texas, shaved his head, and WCCW owner Fritz Von Erich confirmed what Lewis had said about WCCW having enough heels. Mid-South was in need of a heel so Von Erich sent Robertson to MSW and The Missing Link was born. The transformation from Dewey Robertson to The Missing Link was so drastic, wrestlers who had known him for years did not recognize him.
-Upon entering MSW, manager Skandar Akbar explained that The Missing Link's real name was "Max"
-His first match as The Missing Link was against Magnum T. A.
-Appeared in Sports Illustrated in a full page photo. The magazine was doing a story on the success of WWF's WrestleMania. He was the only non-WWF wrestler to appear in the magazine, but received an offer to join WWF shortly after the magazine hit the newsstands.
-Was David Von Erich's last opponent before Von Erich left for a tour of Japan and passed away in February 1984
-Stayed in character as The Missing Link all the time, never speaking to fans, only grunting.
-Trained Mike Sharpe, Jr. for pro wrestling
-Former member of Devastation, Inc. (MSW & WCCW versions)
-Former member of The Heenan Family (WWF version)
-Former member of The First Family (WWF version)
-Former member of The Pringle Dynasty (Florida & WCCW versions)
-Was a Special Police Constable with the Halton Regional Police Services
-Served on the board of directors of the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) from 1993-1996.
-Served on the Board of Directors of The Critical Link Youth Services.
-Worked as a Court Agent, Process Serving, Commissioner for taking oaths, and freelance courier in his later years.
-Served on the Board of Directors Stoney Creek Optimist Club
-Appeared in the television shows "Maniac Mansion" in 1992 and "Due South" in 1997
-His autobiography entitled "Bang Your Head: The Real Story of The Missing Link" was released in 2006
-Passed away on August 16, 2007 at the age of 68 after a lengthy bout with cancer
