-Began wrestling in 8th grade. As a Varsity Freshman, he had a record of 0-22-1. By the time he was a senior, he his record was 27-0-0 and he took a state championship.
-College record was 66-18. His senior year record was 16-3.
-Competed as a heavyweight in Greco-Roman Wrestling at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico and finished 7th. He attempted to compete in the 1964 Olympics, but was beaten in the qualifying trials by Baron Von Raschke.
-Wrestled Adnan Al-Kaissie in Iraq in 1972 and defeated him. He was held in custody by Saddam Hussein after that. He documented all of these events in the book "Wrestling With Saddam"
-While working for Angelo Poffo in ICW, he did a gimmick where he would put people in a sugar hold and if they could get out, they would win $1000. William Harding, who had a background in martial arts, but was also of very slight build, answered this challenge and was able to escape, which embarrassed the company because ICW had no intention of actually paying him. Harding then held the ring and demanded his money, despite Poffo sending Bob Orton, Jr. out to try and intimidate him. Harding was then taken by police to the back where he was told to let this go, but continued to refuse and ultimately got the money he was promised.
