-He was a two time state heavyweight wrestling champion at Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, TN, winning in 1967 and 1969, the first black athlete to be champion. His son Pez, Jr., won a state title at his father's high school alma mater in 1992 making them the first father-son to win a Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association state wrestling championship.
