-Early in his career, he was the last person that Jack Pfeffer bestowed the gimmick of "Bummy Rogers" on. The gimmick was a rip-off of Buddy Rogers.
-Used the nickname "The One Man Gang", not to be confused with the wrestler of the same name.
-Unmasked as Mr. Fort Myers by Ron Fuller on March 23, 1971
-Dressed in women's clothes as "Miss Atlanta Lively" and was a valet for Jimmy Valiant
-Once knocked Ox Baker's dentures out, then stomped on them.
-During his feud with Flair, Garvin gained what would later be referred to as "Go-away heat," which would see Flair getting cheered in the middle of a cage match, and Garvin booed. Garvin was perceived as good for chasing after the title and beating up Ric Flair, but not to actually defeating him, being the champion, and carrying the company. His winning the belt was a last minute booking decision by the committee due to losing their original choices for successors, Magnum T. A. and Buddy Landel. With the NWA holding its first pay-per-view event Starrcade the same month WWF was holding its Survivor Series, Crockett chose to face the strong WWF competition by having Flair win the title. That meant Flair had to lose the title first. And whoever beat him, would only be an interim champion. That's where Garvin intervened. Most wrestlers declined the offer, but Garvin, assuming that at 42 it may be his last chance to hold the major NWA title, accepted to fill the role. Indeed, Garvin would hold the title for less than 2 months before losing it back to Flair at the Starrcade '87.
-While feuding with Greg Valentine, he wore a shinguard (similar to what Valentine was wearing at the time) to counter the effectiveness of Valentine's figure-four leglock. He called it "The Hammer Jammer".
-Owns several used car dealerships in Gaston County, NC
