-Turned down a football scholarship at the University of Oklahoma and a tryout with the Dallas Cowboys to wrestle for Oklahoma State University
-1965 NCAA Division 1 Champion
-2 time NCAA Division 1 All-American
-Was the first Native American to win a NCAA National Championship.
-Was the 2nd wrestler to win an NCAA title and the NWA World Title (Dick Hutton was the 1st)
-Trained for pro wretling by Angelo Savoldi and Leroy McGuirk.
-Known to have competed as Ulvade Slim (a masked character originated by Dusty Rhodes) on at least one occasion in Florida in the late 1970s in a match against Dick Slater. One source suggests that he also used the identity while competing in Georgia in the early 1980s.
-Made his debut against Treacherous Phillips in Oklahoma City, OK
-He and his brother Jerry are credited with discovering Hulk Hogan while in Florida.
